Termite Protection for Kit Homes
During a recent iBuild session, one of the attendees raised a question about termite protection for kit homes. This is an important concern for many kit home builders, as termites can cause significant structural damage if not properly managed. Understanding the right protection methods is essential to ensure the longevity and safety of your kit home.
Two Types of Termite Protection
1. Chemical Barriers
- Applied around the perimeter of the slab to deter termites from entering the structure.
- Regular maintenance and reapplication may be required depending on the product used.
2. Physical Barriers
- Integrated into the slab during construction.
- Provides a long-term solution by physically preventing termites from accessing the timber structure.
It’s important to note that termite risk can vary significantly depending on location and zoning. Areas with a high risk of termite activity may require additional protection measures.
