Do you need to be registered to put up the frame and roof in WA?

Charles Christodoulou: And a roof plumber to install the roof.
(So, you need to do a roof plumber then. Okay. I mean, you can obviously do these all yourself if you want to…)
Charles Christodoulou: You don’t need to be registered with anyone. I’m not sure in New South… where are you?
(Perth.)
Charles Christodoulou: Perth… I don’t think you need to be. I think in New South Wales you have to be registered; I think not in Victoria and probably not in Perth.

  • NSW: Generally requires registration.
  • VIC & WA: Not typically required just to erect frames and roofing, but you must still follow local rules.
  • Roofing: A Colorbond roof can be installed by a roof plumber, or you may do it yourself if your state permits.

What this means for owner-builders

You may be able to erect wall frames and roof trusses in WA without being a registered builder, per the speaker’s understanding in the session.

For Colorbond roofing, you can either hire a roof plumber (often solo or with an apprentice) or DIY where permitted.
