External Cladding

A building’s exterior appearance is as important as its interior since it normally gives you the first impression of the house, and first impression counts. iBuild provides external cladding in a wide range of designs to suit each customer’s taste and needs, and our cladding designs are suitable for residential and commercial applications.

What is external cladding:

External cladding is a durable and non load bearing layer attached to the exterior of a building to protect houses from the effects of weather and control the egress of water while providing an aesthetic appeal of the building. Therefore, the choice of external cladding has a significant effect on the environmental energy and economic performance of a home.

External cladding can be made of any of a wide range of materials including wood, metal, brick, vinyl and composite materials. The material of the cladding will affect your house’s resistance to fire (find out more about bushfire attack level rating).

Purposes:

  • External cladding is designed to protect against the weather elements and offers thermal insulation. The cladding does not need to be waterproof, but act as a control element directing water or wind safely away to prevent the infiltration of weather elements from getting into the building structure.
  • It can also be a control element for noise, either entering or escaping.
  • The structure’s exterior elements should be able to resist the solar damage.

Generally, iBuild homes are equipped with James Hardie™ fibre cement cladding which is low maintenance and resistant to rotting, fire, impact, moisture damage and termites when installed and maintained correctly. Optional upgrade to other materials such as Weathertex cladding materials may be possible.
