Do iBuild Homes Comply with the New Livable Design Regulations?

Yes. As a national housing provider, all new iBuild designs meet the livable standard requirements.

What are the Livable Design Regulations?

Most Australian states and territories have introduced new livable standard regulations, with the exception of Western Australia and New South Wales, which have not yet adopted them. These regulations are designed to assist elderly and disabled people by making homes easier and safer to live in as needs change over time.

Key requirements include:
  • At least one external entrance door must be step-free
  • Wider doors throughout the home for easier wheelchair access
  • Larger bathrooms and toilets to allow enough room for a wheelchair to turn
  • Strengthened walls in wet areas to support the future installation of grab rails

What this means for cost:

Some costs may increase slightly to meet these requirements. However, building these features in from the start is more cost-effective than retrofitting them later, since making these changes after construction is typically far more expensive than including them in the original build.

Because all new iBuild designs already meet these livable standard requirements, customers don’t need to request these features separately –  they’re built into the standard design.
