Installation of doors

Doors can be manufactured as panelled, glazed, solid and ledged and braced. Generally, most external doors combine solid construction with a degree of decorative panelling.

Interior doors are of flush panel construction and are either solid or hollow.

Fitting of doors

Doors can be fitted as sliding or hinged. If used externally, the door is fitted to a door frame. For internal use, the door is fitted with a door jamb.
As with the window frame, the external/internal frames or jambs can be manufactured in steel, aluminium, timber, plastic or a composite.
Door frames can be fitted to steel openings in timber frames, or can be fitted to an opening in cavity brick, brick veneer or solid brick construction.

Fastenings

As metal frames and doors are susceptible to electrolytic action (electrolysis), take care to avoid dissimilar metals when installing door units.

Weatherproofing

External doors are designed to be weatherproof and have be fitted to manufacturer’s specifications and working drawing details.
