What is a complying development certificate (CDC)?
Complying development is a process that allows owner builders, home owners and developers in NSW an opportunity to obtain planning and construction approval in a time-efficient manner from an accredited certifier or your local council. Complying development certificates (CDC) can be used for new housing, renovations etc. The CDC’s streamlined process allows for NSW’s residents to receive approval in approximately 20 days compared to a 70-day or potentially longer waiting period. Become one step closer to achieving your goals by applying for a CDC. To learn what this means for you and your project, read on.
How to lodge your CDC application
Applying for a complying development certificate (CDC) allows home builders to pursue their mission and goals for the desired project. The application process involves six steps that empower individuals to bring their projects to life.
Step One
The process includes determining if the project is an exempt development. Exempt developments include installing hot water systems, balconies, and decks. If the proposed exempt development satisfies development standards then the project can commence without further approval from accredited certifiers or local councils.
Step Two
Involves obtaining documents such as planning certificates, certificates of title, and survey plans. The second stage further includes determining the certifying authority and ensuring designs are in accordance with the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and other relevant Australian standards.
Step Three
Making sure your designs comply with the relevant State Environmental Planning Policies (SEPP).
Step Four
Ensuring your project complies with NSW’s specific development standards that are associated with your proposed project.
