Why Choose iBuild
When Space Runs Short
A Melbourne Family’s Smart Approach to Multi-Generational Living
In Ivanhoe, an affluent suburb just 9 km northeast of Melbourne’s CBD, Max Zhao has chosen to create a new home for his family. For Max, the most important distances to bridge are between family members, and his kit homes project is designed to do just that.
With ageing parents wanting to spend several months a year in Australia, the family’s existing small home no longer provided enough space. Max wanted a solution that could keep everyone comfortable without crowding.
“With my ageing older parents, they want to have a few months in Australia when it’s warm,” he explains. “A small house in the front is not enough accommodation. We’re building something bigger in the back, either for hosting us or hosting them when they’re here.”
Max began a thorough search for a kit home supplier, using AI tools to identify and contact nearly a dozen companies. His criteria were specific: he needed a supplier that was transparent, capable of providing a two-storey dwelling, and competitively priced. The search quickly narrowed the field.
He reached out to 11 different companies in Melbourne. Many didn’t reply in time, and of those who did, most only offered single-storey builds.
“Only one other company came back to me with two-storey options – and iBuild’s price was much more competitive,” Max recalls. “What stood out was how easy it was to deal with them. Their plans were online and detailed, not just photos. I could look at them straight away and say, ‘Hey, this will work.'”
This clarity and accessibility, combined with competitive pricing and responsive communication, made iBuild the clear choice.
To achieve the space and comfort his family needed, Max selected iBuild’s Kit Homes Hunter Valley. Its two-storey layout was the perfect answer. He is also making key modifications, including increasing the ceiling height to 2.7 metres and upgrading to double-glazed windows – thoughtful details designed to create a brighter, more comfortable environment.
Now, with a clear design and a trusted supplier, Max is preparing for the next phase by getting his owner-builder license. This will allow him to project manage the construction himself, giving him full control over the process and budget.
This project represents more than square metres for Max – it’s a commitment to family, comfort, and flexibility. iBuild continues to help families achieve their vision, empowering them to build homes that are stronger, smarter, faster, and more affordable.
