Innovation in Prefabrication Leads To Top Class Railway Station

AUSTRALIA'S FIRST TRAIN STATION TO ACHIEVE A 5 STAR GREEN STAR AS BUILT RATING

EXEMPLARY QUALITY

iBuild is proud to present the new Reservoir Railway Station, as part of Victorian Government’s program to remove 75 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne by 2025.

The Reservoir Railway Station is now open, with new facilities such as waiting rooms and toilets, as well as brand new police offices, for all passengers’ safety.

Reservoir Station has become the first train station in Australia to be awarded a 5 Star Green Star As Built rating by the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA).

In another win for the team, the Reservoir project also achieved a ‘Leading’ rating, the highest scoring level awarded by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA). This is an outstanding result for an infrastructure project.

ENGINEERING INGENUITY

In partnership with head contractor John Holland, iBuild worked on the structural design, offsite fabrication, module delivery, and onsite installation of the Reservoir train station, under the tight timeframes associated with a substantial state infrastructure project

The level crossing removal project began in 2019 with John Holland building the sky bridge, railway, and platform, while iBuild worked on the modular station building design, fabrication in our Campbellfield factory. Among many challenges was the critical task of installing the prefabricated station building modules into the precise location immediately below the sky bridge, which prevents the conventional crane lifting and loading into the location underneath.

Thanks to the ingenuity of the engineers at iBuild, the team piloted and developed an unconventional loading method via forklift, an Australia first. During the project, iBuild utilised a heavy duty forklift, the only such one in Australia, to successfully load and install all building modules into place with accuracy.

We couldn’t be happier with the determined and dedicated work ethic demonstrated by the iBuild team, in all facets of this project. John Holland were also thrilled with the work iBuild had done, thanking iBuild’s Managing Director Jackson Yin, and Director of Operations, Michael Zeng, for the job well done.

“The Reservoir train station buildings are a great outcome. The build quality of Reservoir station is higher than any other station John Holland has done previously for the Level Crossing Removal program”, said John Holland’s General Manager for station projects.

iBuild’s competency and innovation on large scale infrastructure designs was showcased throughout the project, demonstrating the way in which our teams excel in projects like these. We provide our customers with a sense of reliability and trust, ensuring that if we can successfully deliver on projects like this one, we won’t have any issues when it comes to our residential projects.

[It is] an outstanding achievement, especially in light  of the tight timeframe, and being one of the most technically challenging station to build”.   Michael Zeng, Director of Operations
