Charles and Jennifer are the proud owners of Henry’s Cottage Penola, a self-contained Airbnb built using our popular Kit Homes Berwick design.
The Vision
The vision for Henry’s Cottage began with a large block of land and an idea: building a small, self-contained cottage behind an existing dwelling to operate as an Airbnb.
Choosing the Berwick Design
When it came to selecting the right floor plan, the Berwick design stood out. It offered the size and shape they were looking for, along with the flexibility needed to customise the space for short-term guests.
To bring the cottage to life, Charles and Jennifer opted for our Floorkit and Lockup Kit. This combination gave them the structural framework they needed while allowing them to manage the project on their own timeline.
The Owner-Builder Experience
As a retired couple who enjoy taking on new projects, Charles and Jennifer were ready to roll up their sleeves. Taking on an owner-builder project is no small feat, but they found it an enjoyable challenge. They managed the project themselves, engaging qualified tradespeople as required.
The Result: Henry’s Cottage Penola
Today, the results speak for themselves. The finished cottage is solidly built, cosy, and complements the existing heritage cottage. The cottage sits within its natural environment and has become a comfortable and much loved destination for their Airbnb guests.
