We would like to congratulate our customers Rebecca & Eddie  for selecting the Kit Homes Bega design for their project near Keysborough, VIC.

Helpful from the First Call - Why Rebecca Chose iBuild for Her Secondary Dwelling

Keysborough is a residential suburb in Melbourne’s south-east, approximately 27 kilometres from the CBD. It’s here that Rebecca and her partner Eddie are planning a second dwelling in their backyard – a home for Rebecca’s mother-in-law.

Rebecca and Eddie purchased the property earlier this year. With a young family of their own, they wanted to create a comfortable, independent space for Rebecca’s mother-in-law to live close by. A compact second dwelling in the backyard was the practical solution – close enough for family, with its own sense of home.

As a recently qualified carpenter, Rebecca understands the building industry firsthand, but the kit home supply side was new territory. She and Eddie compared several suppliers and checked online reviews before reaching out to iBuild.

What set iBuild apart was the response Rebecca received from Charles, iBuild’s customer engagement specialist. Having not built a granny flat before, Rebecca had plenty of questions and needed guidance on where to start. Charles called back straight away.

“He was just very helpful. I haven’t built a granny flat before and I didn’t really know where to start. I gave him a call, he called me back straight away. A lot of other companies took days to call back, which was very frustrating. He spoke very clearly, easy to understand, and you can tell he loves teaching people.”

That responsiveness made a lasting impression. Where other suppliers took days to return a call, Charles was prompt, clear and generous with his knowledge. For Rebecca, strong customer service was essential – and iBuild delivered from the first conversation. iBuild’s positive reviews reinforced the decision, and the range of design options on the website gave her the flexibility to find a layout that suited the brief and the site.

Rebecca and Eddie chose the Bega: a compact one-bedroom, one-bathroom design, with timber-framing on a concrete slab foundation – a practical fit for a compact metro block. iBuild offers both timber and steel frames, and the frame choice reflected the couple’s brief and project requirements. She’s also considering adding a skylight to bring more natural light inside.

As a small second dwelling, the project is expected to follow Victoria’s simplified pathway, which may mean a council planning permit isn’t required.

Together, Rebecca and Eddie are creating a comfortable home for her mother-in-law, just steps from their own front door. With Rebecca’s carpentry experience, combined with Eddie’s plumbing expertise, the family has a clear path to a home that keeps three generations close.

“ I didn't really know where to start. I called iBuild and got a call back straight away. A lot of other companies took days to call back, which was very frustrating. Very clear and easy to understand, and you can tell they love teaching people.
