Wadalba is a residential suburb in the Central Coast region of New South Wales. It’s here that Kajori is planning a second dwelling – a project she’s had in the back of her mind for years and is finally ready to begin.
The project is a rental investment first and foremost, with the flexibility to become something more down the track. Whether that’s an Airbnb, a home for her 20-year-old daughter, or a place for the two of them, Kajori sees the build as both a financial step and a family one – a chance to create something worthwhile alongside her daughter.
Working in real estate on the Central Coast, Kajori came to this project with a practical eye. She’d built a granny flat nearly a decade ago with a traditional builder and knew what things should cost – and what the experience should feel like the second time around.
A Google search for granny flat builders brought iBuild into view. Kajori compared current traditional builder pricing against iBuild’s kit and found the financial case was straightforward – a comparable rental return for roughly half the outlay. But it was reputation and integrity that truly set iBuild apart.
"Lots of kit home builders do it, but they don't maintain integrity in the build. So your reviews and what people say are really important - the experiences, the support you get. I don't want to be left in the cold somewhere and not know what to do. I want to learn, and I want to teach my daughter too."
Kajori chose the Belgrave – a design she loved from the outset. She’s exploring built-in wardrobes for the bedrooms and considering whether to add a powder room, decisions she’ll work through with the iBuild design team. The framing will be steel, set on a concrete slab foundation.
"I love the design. Once I did my research, I was certain I was going with iBuild."
iBuild’s customer engagement specialist John played a key part in getting the project to this point. Kajori described him as patient and supportive – more of a guide than anything else – someone who stayed with her through a busy schedule and helped her progress one step at a time.
"For me it's the experience of it all - how well people feel informed and supported. I think they're really important things."
With the project now in the design phase, Kajori already sees this as the start of something bigger.
"You'll have a customer for life. Once you've gone through this process, next time I do any kind of build I'll come back to you."
After years of turning the idea over, Kajori has a clear path to a dwelling that can earn its keep as a rental and adapt to family life later – a project she can learn from alongside her daughter, supported by a kit home supplier making the process stronger, smarter, faster and more affordable.
