A Home for Her Son: Belinda’s Perth Build BeginsÂ
Located in Perth, Western Australia, Belinda’s project started with a simple but pressing motivation: her son needed a space of his own, and buying wasn’t an option.
It's hard to afford a place of your own at the moment over here in Perth. So we thought we'd build that for him.

The plan was to add a secondary dwelling to the family’s existing property – giving her son independence while keeping him close. With an eye to the future, the dwelling adds meaningful living space and resale value to what is currently a two-bedroom home.
The Spreadsheet Approach
Belinda didn’t approach this lightly. Before signing with anyone, she built a spreadsheet.
I had a spreadsheet going with them all, trying to look at all the different costs and what's included, what's not included - working out what kind of the best deal is with the most inclusions without the highest cost.
That level of diligence narrowed the field quickly. She also ruled out modular construction early on as getting a modular dwelling into the rear of the property would have required a large crane, making it logistically and financially unworkable. This made it clear that a kit home would be the right path.
From there, the decision came down to two things: a design that suited the space, and confidence that it would get approved.
"I settled on iBuild just because it had a good design for the space and the size that we had and for what we needed. Our council is quite hard and very strict on some things - and looking at this one, it would meet all of their guidelines and we'd actually end up being able to get it approved. It looks like a good quality house with good building materials."
 Guided from the start Belinda came to this process as a first-timer, unsure where to begin and about the right sequence of steps. Charles, her Customer Engagement Specialist at iBuild, walked her through every step.
I wasn't very experienced at any of this and didn't really know too much about it or where to actually begin. Charles helped me through the whole lot. There was a lot of conversation back and forward, and he was really great."
After signing with iBuild , Belinda was officially welcomed into the iBuild process. Her onboarding session was a one-hour Google Meet covering the path forward, key milestones, questions and answers, and the tips, tricks and traps of the journey ahead. iBuild’s Managing Director joined to welcome her personally – that kind of attention from the top set the tone for the support that followed.
Getting Underway
The Yass design – one of iBuild’s newer and popular models – is well suited to the block and the brief. After months of research, a carefully built spreadsheet, and a chosen partner that gave her reassurance and confidence. With design now underway and council already engaged, Belinda and Kyle have a supportive team at their fingertips, allowing their project to move forward with real momentum.
